God has been so kind throughout this entire process, and I just don't know what to do about it. On the 6 and a half hour flight to Lima, I got to sit next to this adorable little girl named Emma-Sophia. Nothing better than hanging out with a toddler on an air plane! She sure kept things exciting (in a surprisingly well-behaved manner). I was also able to do some leisure reading on the airplane (en Español, claro), and read a bit of Isaiah as well. God's promises will never cease to amaze me! I know this is experience is going to pull me closer to Him and drive me deeper into His love.
My host family, Chela y Carlos, met me at the airport at 11:50pm and we got to chat a bit on the way back to their house. They speak no English (which is PERFECT), and I actually surprised myself with my Spanish during that conversation. During the 20-minute drive, I got to see a glimpse of the city. Lima is a very big city, and right now it's the end of winter (talk about a shock for your body). It is cloudy and about 64 degrees, and I think I am missing the lovely 98 back home.
After a brief night of sleep, I had breakfast with Chela and Carlos (the coffee is delicioso!) while we talked a bit more and watched some TV. They have a small apartment around the corner from their house where they house exchange students, and there is a room there for me with my own bathroom! We walked over after breakfast and I got to unpack my bags and meet my roommates. Risaura and her brother are from Cuzco, Peru and are studying at la Caticolica as well. She is working on her thesis for grad school, and her younger brother will be moving in later this week and will be starting his freshman year. Hopefully things will go well living with them.
Here's a quick picture of my room. It's not very big, but what else do you need besides a bed, a desk, a closet and a bathroom?
